Day 3: Jardim Oceanico, Rio de Janeiro

I didn't think I would find something decent today. I rode about 12 km with my bike till I saw this guy watching over the surfers at the pier. The beach is the beginning of Barra da Tijuca, or Jardim Oceanico. It's a fashionable neighbourhood with only low buildings, as opposed to most of the other areas in Rio. The hill on the right is one of the only ones without slums, and also the home of the rich and shameless: Joa. Our hero is unscrupulously turning his back on them.

  1. I love the composition here - my eye is immediately drawn to the geometric red guard house, but the rest of the picture is natural soft shapes and colors - even the guard ;)

  2. Our hero doesn't look like he could rescue a kitten from a paper bag! Great colours and a lovely mood across the whole thing. Very well done.

  3. Thank you for your most helpful advice regarding where the need doesn't go in my cross-stitch - maybe that's why it's taking me so long!

I will endeavour to enlighten you some more with words you've never heard of before the month is out - but not today.

Nice pic. The red hut really stands out as does the matching surf board.

  8. That red hut is a marvellous subject. The baywatch-hero might need some extra help when there is an actual crisis :D .

  9. What a vivid red hut. The surfboard and lifevest match it well. Lovely sky, too and I enjoy the fascinating tidbits of info you write about the setting :)

  13. What a cool life guard hut. The hills in the background look more like the country than in a big (huge) city.
