Macumba is a beach that is generally visited by longboard surfers and the inhabitants of the nearby favela (slum). Reason for me to not show my DSLR too proudly, and shoot drive-by-style. I so prefer my beaches empty. Macumba by the way is also the name of the second biggest religion in Brazil. It has similarities with voodoo and is the reason why people dress up in white for new year, and make offerings to the goddess of the sea: Yemanja.

I like the way you've lined up the wall with the edge of the photograph. Nice drive-by-style photo.
ReplyDeleteLooks warm, sunny and welcoming :-) I'll show you a cold, wet, windswept beach in one of my 30 days!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors. Almost looks retro. Hard to imagine such a beautiful place so near a slum.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful looking beach.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot, love the composition.
You are doing this just to torment those of us in less temperate climes, right?
ReplyDeleteI love the more open feel of an uncrowded beach - much more appealing to me. I am warmer just looking at it!

ReplyDeleteI am not coming to your blog anymore until you stop showing off all these wonderfull looking beaches. Great composition with the wall running to thirds up the left and the mountain in the top right, see I can learn ;)
ReplyDeleteI just can't spell :)
I want to be you.
ReplyDeleteCome on guys.. just wait till july when you'll be in full summer and it will be... well.. less warm here :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat composition with that wall leading out to the island and the people on the beach look positively friendly! Why didn't you stop to say 'hi'? ;-) Nice work and great colours. There is beauty even where you wouldn't expect to find it (i.e., near the slums).
ReplyDeleteWish the bad areas of town looked this good here!
ReplyDeleteGood composition, and very wise of you to not show an expensive camera there too.
ReplyDeleteI like the way the eye is led along the wall to the tree and the island, a good job all around.

I envy you! Beautiful composition with the curving line of the wall and little red umbrellas. That huge green hill in the distance, is that another island?
ReplyDeleteBeware showing off these lovely beaches, there may be 30 something unexpected visitors coming soon :D .
ReplyDeleteSo who was driving? Or did you make a short stop to frame and focus?
I think I parked my car for a full 10 minutes. And most of the people are just nice and harmless.. but Rio is a very split-up city.
ReplyDeleteOh, and that green hill is an island, but at low tide you can walk to it.
ReplyDeleteYour photos should be in a brochure!
ReplyDeleteA timeless scene, this is a much harder theme than mine (taking photos around my house) Awesome effort you are making and wonderful photos.
